The Wabash Valey College Warriors wasted no time getting back on the road for another four game stretch in Texas. Last weekend, the Warriors were in Panama City Beach, FL and just a few short days after returning back to Mt. Carmel, the team headed out for Weatherford, TX. The Warriors had a tough schedule while in Texas. They played two games against El Paso Community College, while having to end their trip with a game against Weatherford College and then Salt Lake Community College. Weatherford College is ranked seventh in the country, while Salt Lake CC is the defending national champions and the number one ranked team in the country.
Wabash Valley trailed El Paso in game one 8-3 in the bottom of the third, until putting up a ten spot to take the lead, 13-8 in the bottom of the third. Wabash would go on to win game one 19-9. Matt Helms got the win on the mound for the Warriors. Connor Christenson lead the Warriors with 6 RBIs.
In game two, El Paso jumped out to an early 7-0 lead. The Warriors cut the deficit to five in the second inning and then tied the game at seven in the top of the third. Both teams battled the rest of the game, but Wabash used a 12 run sixth inning to pull away from El Paso. Wabash won game two 25-17. Owen Cornett had a huge game for the Warriors at the dish. He went 3-4 with three homeruns and 7 RBIs. Enrico Veach and Logan Marsell also had homeruns for the Warriors, while adding 5 RBIS a piece. Boby Eidell was the winning pitcher for the Warriors.
The Warriors lost to Weatherford College in game three by a final of 10-5. Cornett added another homerun to his season total and two more runs batted in.
In the final game of the weekend, the Warriors faced off with the defending national champions and the top team in the counrty, Salt Lake Community College. Salt Lake took a 1-0 leading in the top of the second. The Warriors tied the game in the bottom of the fourth off a sacrifice fly from Drake DeFreitas and then took the lead 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh thanks a two rbi single from Connor Christenson. El Paso knocked on the door in the top of the ninth as they scored one, making it 3-2. DeFreitas came up big for the Warriors late in the game earning the save on the mound. Ben Mazur picked up his first collegiate win today.
Owen Cornett was a problem for opposing pitching while in Texas. Cornett finished the trip going 6-12 at the plate, with four homeruns and 12 RBIs. He know has five homeruns and 15 RBIs on the season. He is third in the country with five homeruns.
