Lady Warriors Start 2-0 In Champaign

The Lady Warriors started their weekend campaign off with taking two sets from Hawkeye Community College and Lake Michigan College.

Against the Hawkeyes, Isabella Leurck lead the team with 15 kills. Katie Sevier added 14 kills. Sophie Spanier had 26 digs in the match and Ayiana Nieves followed her lead with 16 digs. Sevier and Michl had two solo blocks to add to our defensive. Nieves had another double-double match with 16 digs and 51 assists, plus five aces. The team had eight total aces.

The Lady Warriors had a team high .259 hitting percentage with 40 kills and 56 digs in their match verse Lake Michigan College. Middle blockers Katie Sevier lead the team with 10 kills. Kaitlyn Oakley added nine kills. Leurck added 8 kills and 3 block assists to the win. Reagan Fager contributed 6 kills. Spanier had 22 digs in 3 sets. 

Coach Refenes had this to say about todays games.

"We are looking forward to competing today against two strong teams. Kirkwood is nationally ranked and will challenge our grit and ability to adjust quickly. DMACC is another strong team from Iowa and will test our composure and will to win."

Kirkwood is ranked 3rd in the NJCAA Division Two polls, while Des Moines Area Community College is 14th.
