WVC wins big over OCC

The new weekly NJCAA Division I poll is out and Wabash Valley College softball team is ranked 18th in the nation.  Butler County is the only undefeated team in the top 20 at 32-0 and they continue to hold down the number spot followed by Chipola at 47-2, Salt Lake 27-4, Florida Southwestern State 47-4 and Midland Texas is 5th with a 27-6 record.


The Lady Warriors swept Olney Central for the second time this season on Tuesday afternoon.  The double header was on the road and WVC won game one 6 to 2 and took the second game in five innings winning 15 to 0.


Jade Montgomery won her 10th game of the season with two losses.  She allowed seven hits and two runs over seven innings.  WVC jumped out early with three runs in the first inning.  Megan Eder would get a single up the middle followed by a walk to Mallory Rutz.  With two outs Jamie Lenn would hit a three run homer over the left field fence.   The Lady Warriors would score a single run in the 6th when Lacey Wilzbacher would walk, Natalie David would then single to left field and later in the inning Wilzbacher would score from third on a pass ball.   WVC would add two more insurance runs in the top of the 7th when Taylor Miles would single to left center field and Lenn would pick up her second home run of the game for two more RBI's.  Jamie Lenn had a great game at the plate going two for three with two home runs and she drove in five of the six runs. Allyssa Davis was two for four in the game.  The Lady Blue Knights would score single runs in the second inning when they put together three hits and in the 5th add another run on an RBI single by Katie Kuester.


In game two the Lady Warriors would score early and often in this five inning game.    Megan Eder would pitch five innings allowing five hits and no runs getting another shutout for WVC.  Eder is now 10-3.  The Lady Warriors had the bats going again in this game led by Lacy Wilzbacher who was three for four, Natalie David was three for four with four RBI's and the hitting star in this game was Hannah Shirley who was three for three with six RBI's.  Shirley had two home runs and David had one.

In the first inning Wilzbacher would get a single and steal second and then David would follow with a double to drive in Wilzbacher.  Second inning Lenn draws a walk and scores on the first of two home runs by Shirley.  Taylor Miles would single and score when Makenzie Duncan would triple.  In the 3rd with two out Lenn singles and Shirley would get her second home run of the game.  The 4th inning the Lady Warriors would plate four runs on three hits.  Key hits in the inning was a two run homer by David and a double by Shirley driving in two runs.  In the top of the 5th WVC would score five more runs on six hits with doubles by Eder and Rutz driving in two runs apiece.


WVC is now 27-5 and 13-2 in the GRAC while OCC falls to 15-11 and 5-9 in the conference.


Weather permitting the Lady Warriors will be at home Thursday with Lincoln Trail starting at 2 pm.  Saturday they will host Rend Lake with the first game beginning at noon and Sunday they will host John Logan playing them for the first time this spring also at Paul Schnarre Field.
