What about those Warriors! WVC came out ready to play to a full James Spencer Sports Center crowd, jumping out to a 9-0 advantage, and led by 18 points at one point in the first half. In the second half, the Warrior lead slowly faded, as the Lakers got hot from the arc. With 3:10 left in the game, Lake Land's Josh Jefferson would hit two free throws to pull within one 79 to 78. The game was tied at 81 all with 2:15 left. Lake Land got a three point lead with :40 remaining 86 to 83, but Warrior Freshman Jalen Newsome would drive the lane and get the layup to pull within one. The Warriors then pressed during the inbound play, and Tyresse Williford would get a steal, and layup, to give WVC an 87 to 86 lead. Lake Lands Tra Landers would then score, and get fouled, and make the old fashion three point play, to put LL up 89 to 87 with 10 seconds left to play. Williford was able to work his way down the court and get into the lane and score at the buzzer to tie the game. In overtime it was Newsome who would hit two threes to keep WVC in the game, and with two seconds on the clock and WVC down by one, Williford would step to the foul line and hit both free throws, giving WVC a 102-101 lead. Lake Land's 35 footer was off the front of the rim, securing the Warrior victory. The Warriors had 6 players in double figures, with Austin Trice leading the way with 16 points and 12 rebounds, Williford and Anthony Christian both had 15 points. With 14 points apiece was Marcus Garrett and Jalen Newsome and Josh Thomas added 10 points. WVC out rebounded Lake Land 46 to 29 with 16 offensive rebounds. The Warriors are now 14-8 and 7-4 in the GRAC while Lake Land is 14-7 and 8-3 in the conference. Warrior Head Coach Mike Carpenter said after the game "That was a huge win, in regards to the Conference Race. We're right back in the mix. Lake Land is a very good team and we made just enough plays to win the game. I'm proud of our guys, for sticking together and stepping up, while we battle the injury bug, but our guards have to do a better job managing the game. Way too many mistakes and bad shots toward the end of regulation. We've improved a ton and have won 10 of our last 13 and this should be a lot of fun down the stretch."
